Unapologetically Being Yourself

Unapologetically Being Yourself

“If you are not the hero of your own story, then you’re missing the whole point of your humanity.” – Steve Maraboli

“Unapologetically Being Yourself.” The last couple of weeks have been a bit hectic for me. I immersed myself into the blogging world. There are millions of bloggers out there doing the exact same thing I am doing and it is so tempting to just do what everyone else is doing. It is so tempting to just pick a blogger and mirror what they do to gain traffic.

But I realized I do not want that. I want to be unique, I want to be genuine and I want to be me. It is so easy to get overwhelmed when you have not developed a following yet. But I always remind myself, there are over 7 billion people in this world, I will definitely still find people that would like to read my content.

Now, forget about my blogging life for a second and just think about your life. We are all getting lost in this abyss called life. Everyone is losing their identity because we are trying so hard to mirror societal norms. People are so afraid to be themselves, or share their genuine lives. Everybody is trying so hard to be the same that we are losing what makes us human, our difference, our uniqueness.

Sometimes, I catch myself in the act of trying to mirror someone else. In my opinion, social media plays a huge role in this issue. We get celebrities, movies and now influencers shoved in our faces everyday. Telling us what to wear, how to wear it, what to eat and how to think. We are constantly seeing ads telling us our body is not desirable, our facial features need work and we are adequate at best.

“Live your truth. Express your love. Share your enthusiasm. Take action towards your dreams. Walk your talk. Dance and sing to your music. Embrace your blessings. Make today worth remembering.” – Steve Maraboli

Well, I refuse to be adequate, I refuse to be average and I refuse to be told constantly how to think or how much weight to lose because I know I am beautiful, I know I am unique and I know I am one in a million. I have decided to live my life without masks and with no fear of being different.

I have worked on myself for so long and I am proud of the woman I am becoming. Everything in my life has not gone the way I expected it to but I wake up every morning and I get things done. My dreams and aspirations are alive. So if I keep pretending to be someone I am not, I will never be able to achieve anything in life.

To fully master the art of being yourself, you have to completely ignore societal norms. You have to stop trying to please everybody because you will never be able to. You have to embrace every single aspect of yourself, your imperfections included. Because there is no YOU without the imperfections, you are only human.

Finally, focus on yourself, your life, learn something new about you and care a little less about everybody else. Being yourself makes you unique, there is a reason why you were put in this world, whether you believe it or not, you being here makes a difference.
